Doing something good..

April 6, 2009

Two months ago, I had a wonderful experience with my friend, Edyta. She came to the U.S. to visit her grandmother. Edyta was here only one month, so she didn’t have the opportunity to know a lot of people, and sometimes she felt lonely. I was busy because I had school and work, but whenever I had free time, I went to her and I spent some time with her.

I had a car, so we were in a good situation because if she needed to go somewhere I could give her a ride. In this way, we could help her grandmother also, because if she wanted something, we could do it for her. For me it was a double pleasure because I could help someone and I had a great time. For example, before Edyta went back to my country, she wanted to buy gifts for her family and friends. Therefore, I could help her by giving her rides to malls. Also, I felt happy that I could spend more time with her. We were laughing and talking about time when I was in Poland. We remembered   our funny situations when we were at school. Edyta and her stories made me forget about all my problems.

It was wonderful time for me because I had opportunity to help someone here in the U.S. Normally, I’m the one who asks others people for help, so this time I felt proud of myself that I was able to do something for someone else.

Homeschooling…

April 23, 2009

Definitely, homeschooling is a bad idea for children because it:

-          makes children “different” and  limits social interaction  with  other people

-          limits educational experience

-          makes that their childhood looks different than other children who attend to regular school

Should Towns Have Teen Curfew Laws?

April 14, 2009

Who of us as teens didn’t have to be at home before midnight or earlier? For many teenagers it’s like a nightmare because they cannot stay out all night long and hang out with friends. They complain to their parents about it but now they have bigger problem like towns curfew laws. In many towns it is normal that teens have curfew law because it helps to keep teens under control. All towns should have teen curfew laws because it reduces nighttime crimes, helps to keep teens safety and helps parents to control their children.

One of the reasons why towns should have teen curfew laws is that it reduces nighttime crimes. In some cases by keeping teens off the streets at night, we can avoid many crimes. Police reports show that more than 65% of teenagers are more likely to get in trouble during nighttime than daytime. It is very easy way to drop numbers of crimes. By curfew, teens don’t have opportunity to do things against the law.

Another reason why curfew for teens is a good idea is that it helps to keep teens safe. Curfews help keep teens out of trouble but also it prevents minors from being the victims of crime. It’s very useful especially for young girls, who don’t have opportunity to be out in the streets so late at night. In this way, they can avoid violence. Moreover, it’s a double advantage because if they are out during curfew and they don’t want to breake the law they have to be in company with someone like parent, guardian or an adult. So still, they can feel safe because they have someone who can protect them.

The most important reason why curfew is a good idea is that parents can control their children. By curfew parents can sleep good and don’t worry what are their children doing and where they are. Michael Frankowski who now attends Farmingdale University said, “Parents try to teach kids good morals and they want everything what is best for them. That’s why they give them curfews.” By this, parents are sure that their kids cannot get in trouble with law and they will not be a victim of crime. Children may not agree with the way in which parents protect them but by truly it is good for kids.

Opponents of curfew say that curfew can violate teens’ freedom. Jennifer Fernandez said, “I believe 18 is the age you should not have a curfew, because you know what is right from wrong and you are mature enough.” It may be true in same cases. However, statistics show that more than 72% of people arrested are juveniles. It shows that teens should have curfew because they are not able to take care of themselves without getting in trouble. Moreover, a professor of criminal justice at the University of Central Florida, Ken Adams said, “Curfews generally are popular because they promise to be effective and inexpensive, and we like that combination.”

In conclusion, we can say that curfews are beneficial for teenagers because they reduce nighttime crimes, help to keep teens safety also help parents to control their children. Definitely, curfews are a good idea for teens. In my opinion, all towns should have this law because it makes a society safe.

My great time..

March 31, 2009

It was raining all day last weekend and I was bored. I called my friends but they wasn’t in mood to go out. I knew that “Knowing” had premiere, so I decided to go. I hopped that I would have good fun. The movie theater was very crowded. I heard that, all tickets were reserved. I was worried about ticket but I wasn’t lucky and I didn’t get one, so I went home. I was watching TV and I saw a cartoon, “Panda Kung Fu”. I didn’t see this cartoon before, so I started to watch it.

I knew that movie was directed by John Stevenson and Mark Osborne, and now I can say that they both did good job. The direction was amazing and I was impressed after seeing movie.

“Panda Kung fu” is a cartoon but I think that it is the best for adults. I was surprised because there were seriously problems touched by directors. I think that children are too young and sometimes they can’t see that there was hidden “metaphor”. Adults can see all hidden things and they can understand them in different ways. It can be difficult for children to do but still they can have fun. I was surprised that this cartoon was recommended for children.

I’m glad that I saw this cartoon because I had great time and I got a new experience about cartoons.

My dreams :)

February 24, 2009

I think that everyone has to make a lot of  important decisions during his life. One year and seven months ago, I made a decision that changed my whole life. After my graduation, I decided to move to the United States. It was a very hard decision for me because I left my family and my friends in Poland, but my dream was more important than everything was.

In my opinion, it was a good idea. My moving made me grow up. In short time I became an adult and I started think seriously about my life. I was alone in the U.S. and far away from my family, so I had to take care alone of myself. It was a huge step into my adulthood.

I think that my decision about my moving to the United States was the hardest decision in my life. It was difficult but I don’t regret anything. Sometimes still is very hard but I know that now I can’t give up.
